On March 31, 2026, we held the third edition of Rolling Green rendez-vous at the Maison du développement durable in Montreal.
For the past three years, this must-attend event dedicated to sustainable audiovisual production has brought together professionals from Quebec and beyond who are eager to learn more, discuss industry challenges, and create opportunities for collaboration that foster the sector’s socio-ecological transition. Once again this year, the event brought together over 90 industry professionals for a diverse and inspiring program!
BETTER UNDERSTANDING OUR ECO-EMOTIONS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THEM
The event was moderated by Krystel Marylène Papineau, founder of Rose sur vert.
The morning began with an introduction to eco-emotions and how they have evolved over time: from a sense of unease to the intense emotions shared by so many today. Amélie Gauthier, a doctoral student in psychoeducation and community manager at Éco-motion, spoke to us about the role our emotions play in the multiple crises we are facing today and offered suggestions on how to better cope with them.
COSTUMES: BETWEEN CREATIVITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
The first panel of the day brought together two costume designers, Kate Lecours (Le Grand Costumier) and Sophie Lefebvre, and Anaelle Nedelec (Unel), an expert in sustainable fashion. Moderated by Gautier Berlemont of the Mmode industrial cluster, the discussion highlighted the growing environmental impact of the textile industry, which necessitates the adoption of more eco-friendly practices for costumes as well. Our experts then shared their experiences and the challenges they faced in balancing creativity and sustainability.
BUDGET, NEEDS, AND BARRIERS TO SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION: RESULTS OF THE STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF ECO-FRIENDLY MEASURES ON BUDGETS
Late in the morning, Jocelyn Pogorbsky and Nicole Matiation of Nordicity presented the results of a study on the impact of eco-friendly measures on production budgets. Commissioned by Rolling Green, this study was conducted to shed light on the budgetary realities of sustainable production.
The team was joined by Camille Montreuil, an independent producer who participated in the study. The study’s results are available on our website.
After a lunch break and some networking, the day resumed with a new panel:
INSPIRING STORIES OF THE SUSTAINABLE AUDIOVISUAL TRANSITION
The afternoon continued with testimonials highlighting concrete examples of green transitions.
Moderated by Élie Michaud-Alexis (Bell Fund), the roundtable brought together the following three speakers: Léa Mignault (Slalom Productions), Véronique Perrault, and Richard Cormier (B79 Studios). Exploring topics such as co-production, the needs of production companies, and the role studios can play in the green shift of productions, the discussion sparked rich exchanges, inviting us to rethink our industry and its necessary evolution.
FROM USE TO IMPACT: RETHINKING THE USE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Once again this year, we felt it was essential to explore the ethical and environmental issues raised by digital technology and artificial intelligence, as well as their constant expansion. The need for information and reflection on our use of AI is paramount.
Our speakers, Samuel Bischoff (DGC), Julien Coll (Pragmaframe), and Daria Marchenko (Écoistclub), interviewed by Céline Emery-Bonnat (Fruggr), joined us to discuss our relationship with digital technology and shared their complementary tools, experiences, and insights.
SCREENING OF AN “ROLLING GREEN” ACCREDITED SHORT FILM
In keeping with the tradition of the Rolling Green Rendez-vous, we wrapped up the day with a screening of a Rolling Green accredited short film. This year, we wanted to highlight our partners at ATM Cégep de Jonquière and their students.
Clotilde Robitaille, a 2025 graduate, and Caroline Gagnon, a teacher at ATM, presented “Lemmings,” a student short film produced last year. The screening was followed by a discussion moderated by Julie Silva (QFTC).
A GROWING COLLECTIVE COMMITMENT
The day concluded with a networking reception held in the Atrium. We were pleased to welcome Ms. Vana Nazarian, a City Councilor for the City of Montreal.
This third edition of the Rolling Green Rendez-vous once again demonstrated the sector’s commitment and mobilization, as well as the collective will to shift toward more sustainable methods. Through panel discussions and testimonials, the day highlighted concrete pathways to building a more sustainable sector, demonstrating that promising initiatives are already underway. The event succeeded in raising awareness, equipping, and bringing together an industry committed to the ecological transition.
We extend our warmest thanks to our partners who contributed to the success of this event: the Canada Media Fund (CMF), the event’s main partner; the Bell Fund, a panel partner; and our network partners: AQTIS 514 IATSE, the Directors Guild of Canada, and the Quebec Chapter of the Directors Guild of Canada, as well as the Maison du développement durable.
We also extend our sincere thanks to each speaker, as well as to the many participants who joined us for this event!
